Working with Orkney to develop Hands across the Firth projects for 2011 in conjunction with North of Scotland Hospitality (NOSH).
A presence at the Orkney Science Festival - desktop display and DVD about Dunnet Head on 4th September as part of Family Day.
Part of Scottish Archaeology Month - 18th September - Doors Open Day.

Maintenance of a seal viewing platform at Brough Bay, including the pathworks to the platform - ongoing. There is also be a picnic site in Brough Bay with a barbecue, litter bin and picnic table.
Working with London South Bank university to provide information about Dunnet Head and its immediate environs on Google Earth. September 2009 to January 2010. The students are also working on a database project which was completed in May 2010.
Maintenance of an information shelter at Brough village containing bus timetables, local brochures, and a map of Dunnet Head with places to see in the area. Ongoing.
Heritage path at Brough - leading across Brough Grazings and to Courtfall Loch. Some of the local residents have placed sleepers in place so the ditch at the bottom of the field can be crossed. Signage will be in place shortly.
Highland Council Core Path Plan for Dunnet. The Trust has submitted 3 applications for funds for signage - to be determined at the community council meeting in August.
Some supporters have suggested updating the bus stop at Brough - in hand with the community council.
Organisation and marketing of the Caithness & Sutherland Walking Festival - 1-8 May. We would like to thank our many supporters from both the public and private sectors for making this project possible. More>>>
History archive which shows the plans of the WWII buildings on Burifa Hill and Dunnet Head, a collection of books, letters, news clippings, and other paraphernalia relating to Dunnet Head. The archive will be open on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays from mid May. By appointment only. Entry fee £5.00 including refreshments.
Environment - the Trust is a partner in the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity. A course entitled "Leading Environmental Projects" will be led by BTCV on 4th October. More>>>
Local promotions at Wick TIC from April, focussing on walking at Dunnet Head. Wick TIC is based in MacAllans Mens Shop, Wick.
Campaign for the Scottish Coastal Path - first promotion was at the Walking Festival, followed by the Round Coastal Britain relay. The Trust is undertaking this with the support of a number of organisations.
The runners were at Dunnet Head at midnight on 22nd June but the Trust continues to support the event.
A few hardy local residents turned out to welcome the runners to Dunnet Head and champagne was enjoyed by all, compliments of the Castletown Hotel.
Visit to Orkney as part of the Scotland Rural Gateway event in
Kirkwall on 28th May. This is a joint project between the British Science Association Caithness Branch and the Trust, and kindly part sponsored by Northlink Ferries. The objective is to raise the profile of all organisations involved and get Caithness on the map. The theme is Science in Tourism and will focus on the SSSI element of Dunnet Head. This is just one of our "Hands Across the Firth" projects.
Development of a Walkers are Welcome scheme for Dunnet and Brough. This project is supported by the Dunnet & Canisbay Community Council and there was a meeting in Britannia Hall, Dunnet, on 5th May at 7.30pm when a representation from the national organisation gave a presentation about the scheme.
The next meeting is on 9th June.
Representation at VisitScotland Expo 14/15 April in conjunction with the local Chamber of Commerce. This went really with lots of interest in walking. We are grateful to the Chamber for the opportunity of promoting via this method. We had a very good response and a whole list of new contacts so that we can promote Dunnet Head and its immediate environs more effectively.
Representation at the Walking and Cycling Fair in Holland (end of February), Expo and the Bird Fair (August) in conjunction with Wild Scotland.
A good reception, but most questions asked were general questions about Scotland.
Representation at the Best of Britain and Ireland in conjunction with the UK Experience. A reasonable response, and more information will be sent to them for distribution.
Part of British Tourism Week - 15-21 March - by having a local event during that
week.This was a walking development event with North Highlands Tourism and the Chamber of Commerce. As the Trust is networking with the British Science Association, we used the opportunity to sign the forms for the BSA. An analysis of the information gathered for the North Highland Way and the future of the Walking Festival will be prepared by the Trustees for discusion in September.
The walking development may be moved to the North of Scotland Hospitality Group which is in the process of being relaunched with John Thurso as the President.
