Competa

Points of interest:

Fabrica de Luz, Canillas de Albaida

Information taken from the town hall leaflet:

Route 1: Casa de la Mina, Competa - a nice place for a picnic, 12km round trip.    Timing: Trekking 3hours.   Follow the track upwards from the Venta de Palma which leads to the Cruz del Monte.  At the crossroads, follow the right upwards track.  Pass a track which leads to the Cruz del Monte urbanisation and continue to Puerto Collado with its wonderful views.  Take the left fork towards the Casa de la Mina.  There is drinkable water en route and a chance to see wild goat. A good and easy walk.

Route 2: From Casa de la Mina to the Fabrica de la Luz it is 8km round trip, 2.5 hours walking.  It is easy walking underfoot on a forest track.  Take the downwards track.

Route 3:  Fabrica de la Luz to the deserted village of Acebuchal, allegedly used as a hide out during the Civil War.  Length of track: 6km, 2 hours round trip   trekking.  From Fabrica de la Luz, cross the river and 100m ahead, at the crossroads, take the left track which leads to Acebuchal.

Waterfalls near Sedella - not an easy walk

Fabrica de la Luz, Canillas de Albaida.  Excellent walk to Puerto de Competa and Cerro Lucera at 1.779m.  Be aware that the board at the bottom describes the route as being much longer than it actually is, I would say it is about double!  Medium walk, crossing the river several times.

Hot springs at Alhama de Granada - hotel open in the summer and you can visit the old baths.

Some good walking routes are in Dini and Albert Kraaijenzank's excellent book "25 walks in and around Competa and Canillas de Albaida" now (2003) in its 4th edition.  Available in Marco Polo bookshop.
